ORZO CARBONARA

Updated: Apr 13, 2021

Our favourite Italian Recipe Carbonara with a little twist. Perfect for little Foodies.

Carbonara with orzo pasta • Cherry tomatoes

YOU NEED:

Orzo – 200g

Smoked Pancetta – 130g

Garlic – 1 small clove crushed

Eggs – 2

Grana Padano cheese – 50 g grated

Black Pepper

MAKE IT:

1. Cook your orzo as per back instructions – usually 9 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, cook the bacon in a pan until crispy. Whisk the eggs in a bowl and stir in the grated Cheese & season generously with black pepper and set aside.

3. When the bacon is cooked, add the chopped garlic and a glug of pasta water. Drain the cooked pasta (reserving some water) and add it to the pan, mixing it into the bacon.

4. Turn off the heat and por in the egg & parmesan mixture, stirring it into the pasta as you pour. Add a little pasta until you have a creamy consistency. Easy peasy & super yummy.

Please note!! We have a constant argument in our house about how wet we like the carbonara - so if you prefer it creamier - add another egg!

We all love Carbonara in our house, it’s one of the kids favourite meals.

We usually eat it the traditional way with spaghetti but this recipe uses orzo pasta which is just as delicious. I also think it’s a little easier for Gigi to manage, (although she does live slurping long spaghetti), so this is a great way of serving carbonara for little ones.

If you want a veggie version or your bubba is too young for salty bacon, then this recipe works just as well with mushrooms.

If you want a stronger flavour from the cheese you could use Parmesan instead of Grana Padano.
